Line Composition

Recommended Configuration

A complete working line, not just the forming machine. Each item below is quoted as one package.

  1. 01

Capacity matched to your coil supply

most roofing and framing lines use a 3 T or 5 T decoiler, because standard coil is supplied in 3–5 tonne weights. Guardrail and heavy purlin lines normally need 5–10 T, because the material is thicker and the coils are heavier. Getting this wrong is expensive in one direction only: an oversized decoiler wastes money, an undersized one cannot run the coil you buy.

  2. 02

Double-head configuration where the line runs continuously

a double-head decoiler carries two coil positions, so you load the next coil while the first is still running and change over without stopping. That saves 10–20 minutes per coil change, which across a shift is the difference between one and two coil changes.

  3. 03

    Band brake with tension control

this is the component that decides finished profile length consistency. Without controlled back-tension the coil over-runs, the strip goes slack, the loop jumps or kinks, and the length of the formed piece varies. A band brake keeps constant tension as the coil diameter reduces from full to empty.

  4. 04

    Expanding mandrel

a 4-segment hydraulic mandrel grips the coil bore (480–520 mm) from the inside, so the coil cannot slip on the mandrel under tension. A slipping coil damages both the bore and the first wraps of strip.

  5. 05

    Coil car above 5 T

loading a heavy coil onto the mandrel with a forklift alone risks damaging the mandrel and crushing the coil edge. A coil car is optional, but above 5 T it is worth having.

  6. 06

    Line integration

either a stand-alone control panel or signals matched to your existing line PLC. Tell us the line make and control voltage and we configure accordingly rather than quoting a generic cabinet.

How It Runs

Production Workflow

  1. 01

    Coil loading

The coil is brought to the mandrel by forklift or coil car, positioned on the bore, and the 4-segment hydraulic mandrel is expanded to grip it. Coil bore is 480–520 mm and maximum coil outside diameter is 1500 mm.

  2. 02

    Mandrel expansion

The hydraulic motor expands the mandrel segments against the coil bore. Correct expansion pressure matters: too little and the coil slips under tension, too much and the bore is deformed.

  3. 03

    Threading

The leading wraps are released and the strip is threaded into the leveling unit or the first forming station, depending on the line. This is the point where damaged outer wraps are usually discovered.

  4. 04

    Rotation and brake setting

The electric motor drive runs at variable speed and the band brake holds back-tension. Both are set against the line speed, so the coil feeds as fast as the line consumes it rather than running free.

  5. 05

    Running

As the coil diameter reduces, the brake has to increase its hold to keep the same strip tension. That is the whole reason a band brake with tension control is specified rather than a simple mechanical brake.

  6. 06

    Coil change

On a single-head decoiler the line stops, the mandrel contracts, the empty sleeve is removed and the next coil loaded. On a double-head machine the second position is prepared in advance and the change is a rotation and a re-thread.

Customization Options

Every line is built to order. These are the points buyers most often change.

ItemWhat can be changed
Capacity3 T / 5 T / 10 T. Choose 3–5 T for roofing and framing, 5–10 T for guardrail and heavy purlin work
HeadsSingle head, or double head where the line runs continuously and you want to pre-load the next coil
Coil bore480–520 mm standard expandable mandrel; other bores to your coil supply
Brake typePneumatic for lower tension, hydraulic where higher back-tension is needed
Coil carOptional; recommended above 5 T to protect the mandrel and the coil edge
IntegrationStand-alone control panel, or match signals to your existing line PLC — give us the line make and control voltage
A note on damaged coilA decoiler will uncoil crushed or damaged coil, but the damage carries through into the profile unless the line has a leveling unit. Crushed outer wraps are common after sea freight, so we recommend a straightener on any line running export coil

Applications

Common Questions

FAQ — Hydraulic Decoiler

What decoiler capacity do I need?
Most roofing and framing lines use a 3 T or 5 T decoiler, because standard coil is supplied in 3–5 tonne weights. Guardrail and heavy purlin lines normally need 5–10 T, because the material is thicker and coil weights are higher.
What is the difference between a single-head and double-head decoiler?
A double-head decoiler carries two coil positions so you can load the next coil while the first is still running, then change over without stopping the line. On a line running continuously that saves 10–20 minutes per coil change, which is significant over a shift.
Why is the brake important?
Without controlled brake tension the coil over-runs and the strip goes slack, which causes the loop to jump or kink and produces inconsistent profile lengths. A band brake with tension control keeps constant back-tension as the coil diameter reduces.
Can it handle coils with damaged or crushed edges?
A decoiler can still uncoil a damaged coil, but the damage will carry through to the profile unless the line has a leveling unit. Crushed edges on the outer wraps are common after sea freight, so we recommend a straightener on any line running export coil.
Does the decoiler come with a coil car?
A coil car is optional. It is worth having on any decoiler above 5 T, because loading a heavy coil onto the mandrel with a forklift alone risks damage to the mandrel and the coil edge.
Can the decoiler be integrated with an existing line?
Yes. We can supply a stand-alone decoiler with its own control panel, or match signals to an existing line PLC. Tell us the line make and control voltage and we will configure accordingly.
Can the machine be built for our own profile?
Yes. Send the profile drawing with the section dimensions, the material and thickness, and the coil width you intend to run. We confirm the roll design, forming stations and line layout against that drawing before quoting, so the machine matches the section you actually sell.
How do we get a price for this line?
Send the profile drawing or section dimensions, the material and thickness, the coil width, and your target output per shift. Price depends on the profile, the coil and the level of automation, so we quote against your actual job rather than a catalogue figure.
How is the line controlled?
Control is Integrated with line PLC, or stand-alone panel. The operator sets length and quantity on the panel and the line runs the cycle — that is what keeps batch output consistent across a shift.
What working width does the line run?
Working width: Up to 1300 mm. The decoiler and feeder are matched to the coil you actually buy, so confirm your coil width when ordering rather than assuming a standard.
What is the lead time?
Lead time is 25 – 35 days from order confirmation and advance payment. The schedule is confirmed in writing with the order, and urgent spare parts can be sent by air.
What certification and documentation is provided?
Certification: CE Declaration of Conformity, supplied together with the electrical drawings and the operating manual, so the machine can be registered and maintained locally after delivery.
